THE GRANARY MARKET GARDEN

GARDEN AND VINEYARD

Everyone nowadays is talking about “home grown” produce; everything has to be “locally sourced” and “environmentally friendly” – and for good reason. Sustainability is another key word – and having a social conscience is another important consideration. The Granary has led by example in all these areas.

The Market Garden was planned in 2006 as a project to help train people with Learning Disabilities and the hotel teamed up with Worcester County Council to create this facility. Now covering two and a half acres adjacent to the hotel, the garden is set out in a Parterre system to form a pleasing and symmetrical garden divided by Hornbeam hedging.

All our guests are invited to stroll round the garden and see for themselves.

Our partner, Amber Support Services provides and supervises Learning Disability clients with training in all aspects of horticulture and other indoor creative arts. If you want to get an impression of how much this means – just take a look at the smiles on the face of the clients. It says it all.

Vineyard

Planted in 2014, the 450 vines using the Pinot Noir Precoce variety have just yielded their best ever crop of approximately one and a half tonnes of grapes in late September 2018. This will be processed by Halfpenny Green vineyard into a Still Rose – and the hotel’s first ever Sparking wine available in 2020.
